When I say, Indian, I probably am referring to the age old customs. Some which I hope to find out. I thought I should document them in a series of posts, because many are not being followed.

Meal

Consuming food in a meal has a lot of rules. Today I will take the consumption part of it and list down a few elements:

  1. Sit down on the floor
  2. Eat with right hand only
  3. Do not touch the leaf/ plate with the left hand at all
  4. Somebody has to serve food on your leaf/plate without the ladle/spoon/ hand touching the leaf/ plate
  5. Cooked items should be kept separate from the uncooked ones
  6. If by any chance you touch the cooked items with the left hand clean your hand
  7. Perform required area/ sampradaya specific activities before and after the meal
  8. Never keep the cooked utensils next to your leaf/ plate. Touching is prohibited
  9. Never hold the plate/ leaf for serving/ eating

More later on what to do after and before the meal.
